Great Charles Street, Birmingham
Overview
The redevelopment of Great Charles Street in Birmingham transforms a site that had remained underdeveloped for more than 70 years into a vibrant mixed-use destination and one of the city’s most sought after rental locations. Designed by Ryder Architecture and delivered by main contractor John Sisk & Son, the project aims to breathe new life into a historically overlooked area of the city.
Bennett Architectural was appointed to supply and install key aluminium glazing elements across the development, helping to redefine the building’s visual identity and performance standards.
The Challenge
On a project of this scale, the glazing package had to meet several requirements:
- A modern aesthetic suitable for a landmark regeneration scheme
- High thermal performance in line with current standards
- Robust, durable systems suitable for an urban environment
- Seamless integration with a mix of specialist components
- Precision fabrication and installation on a complex, multi‑storey structure
Our role was to coordinate closely with the contractor and architects to ensure all façade components supported the overall design vision.
Our Solution
Bennett Architectural installed a range of high-quality aluminium glazing systems, including both Kawneer and complementary specialist components.

Additional Systems & Components
To support the project’s functional and architectural goals, several non Kawneer elements were incorporated, including:
- Steel rope
- Nico friction stays
- Revolving entrance door set
- Duco louvres
- Vent ducts
These components were integrated seamlessly with the main glazing systems to ensure both performance and visual consistency across the façade.
