ACC Liverpool Exhibition Centre – Marine-Grade Door Replacement Programme
Overview
The ACC Liverpool Exhibition Centre, located on the waterfront, is exposed to a harsh marine environment. Over time, the original external doors suffered significant corrosion due to constant salt exposure, moisture, and winter salting of surrounding walkways. Bennett Architectural was appointed to remove the deteriorated doors and install new, high-performance replacements designed to withstand the challenging coastal conditions.
Location: ACC Liverpool Exhibition Centre
Bennett Architectural Role: Replacement of external doors
Environment: Harsh marine climate with winter salt exposure
Scope: Removal of corroded doors and installation of marine-grade replacements
The Challenge
Because of the building’s location beside the River Mersey, the external doors were subjected to:
- Marine air exposure, accelerating corrosion
- Heavy salting during winter months, damaging frames, hardware, and finishes
- Constant footfall and operational demands of a busy exhibition centre
- The need to maintain security and accessibility during replacement works
- The original products were no longer fit for purpose, showing visible corrosion and reduced performance.
Our Approach
Bennett Architectural delivered a comprehensive replacement programme focused on long-term durability and improved weather resistance.
1. Removal of Corroded Existing Doors
Our team safely removed all external door sets that had degraded due to marine exposure, ensuring minimal disruption to venue operations.
2. Installation of Marine-Grade Replacement Doors
To provide a lasting solution, we supplied and installed marine-grade aluminium doors specifically selected for:
- Corrosion resistance
- Suitability for high-salt environments
- Structural durability
- Reliability in high-traffic public buildings
3. Application of Marine-Grade Paint Systems
All new door sets were finished using marine-grade paint, providing:
- Superior protection against salt spray
- Increased lifespan
- Reduced long-term maintenance costs
- Enhanced resistance to environmental wear
This finishing system ensures the doors remain visually consistent and structurally sound despite constant exposure to coastal conditions.
Outcome
The project successfully restored the building’s external door performance and appearance:
- All deteriorated doors replaced with durable, marine-grade systems
- Improved resistance to corrosion and salt exposure
- Extended product lifespan, reducing future replacement frequency
- A safer, more reliable access system for staff and visitors
- A visually refreshed façade, maintaining the exhibition centre’s high standards
The ACC Liverpool Exhibition Centre now benefits from a robust external door system designed specifically for its challenging marine environment.
